Gardens: planted

(These pictures are a couple of weeks old but I'm posting them anyway.)

By now everything is coming up beautifully [except our corn, which takes up most of our garden. *grr!*] and it is seriously the hightlight of everyone's day to go peek at what is growing.

Already growing were: rhubarb and strawberries

Planted: corn, beans, grape tomatoes, carrots, multi-colored carrots (???!!! i know; the kids found them on the seed rack so mark said we'd try them out!), sweet onions, cabbage, romaine lettuce, head lettuce, and cucumbers.

In the back garden: butternut squash, orange pumpkins, white pumpkins, zucchini, teeny pumpkins and assorted gourds (for fall decorating).

In the herb garden: basil, italian oregano, rosemary, dill, chives, thyme, cilantro, and more sweet onions.

What have you planted in your garden?

  3. Ooh, how very exciting! We are loving our garden too- watching the changes from day to day is really fun. We're growing multi-colored carrots too! When I was in India most carrots were red, some were purple, and orange were the least common! So I couldn't resist trying to grow them too! Last year the crows ate all our corn either as it was planted or as it came up so we're trying again this year- it's Peregrine's "specialty"!
I think it was you who asked about the kiwi- they do grow very well in the Northwest- we only started ours last year and had to replace the female plant, so we're just getting started with them. They are a baby variety called Arctic Beauty, and are smoothskinned and about the size of a grape- no peeling. The fuzzy bigger ones also grow very well here in Oregon- I would think they would there too.
Okay, I'm planning to email you later!

  5. Well, last year we had cucumbers, corn, green and red peppers, jalapeno peppers, lotsa tomatoes, carrots, lettuce, spinach, green beans, snow peas... and my herb garden had rosemary, thyme, parsley, sage, oregano, garlic chives and basil.

This year: still have the herbs. But the garden is just lettuce, spinach, three tomatoes, one green pepper and one zucchini. We're moving at the end of summer, so we held it to a minimum. I hope I don't regret it!

Your garden looks beautiful - so tidy!

  6. Hello Stacy!

I love your garden pictures. We have planted green beans (with a teepee like yours) and two tomato plants. We also have corn in one section of the backyard and strawberries in a little pot that are waiting to be transferred elswhere. We have dill and basil and maybe some kind of mint(?) that has come back from last year maybe. Also, we are trying out cauliflower. In the front yard we planted pumpkins, a little mound of sugar pie pumpkins and a little mound of GIANT pumpkins. I'll write more later... we are having some naptime disturbances!

    with love,
    rebecca

  8. Wow Stacy! What a great garden. You have so much room. I love it. Take pictures when the corn is grown, won't you?

You are going to have such beautiful fall decorations with all those pumpkins and gourds. How wonderful!

We have our first vegetable garden this year. The lettuce is coming up nicely. We also have pumpkins and zucchini plants poking out of the ground.

My tomato plant looks sunburned..but the onions are growing well. I told my daughter that we wouldn't be too upset if things died because mommy is learning about gardening just as she is. I don't know what I am doing and we are just giving it our best shot.

    Have a great day,
    Stacy

  9. Stacy! I LOVE your new header! It is so beautiful!
Your gardens sound fantastic. Ours is tiny, since we live in a townhouse: this year we have 3 tomato plants, 2 bell peppers, cucumbers, and zucchini, and I have herbs growing in pots (basil, parsley, cilantro, chives, lemon verbena, mint, rosemary, sage, stevia, and thyme). In the summer, we practically live on fresh tomato & basil salad!

  10. Mark replanted our corn last night. :( Only six little corn stalks were coming up from the three entire rows we planted. *sob* I love hearing about everyone's gardens! :) Yummy!
And Rebeca- that is *so* fun about the multi-colored carrots! I never knew that! :) I'm going to have to look into a kiwi tree in the future! You'll have to let me know how yours does this year.
    Blessings to all of you,
    Stacy
