Got a shoe box?

I'm super excited about something we're going to be doing in the next week or two. We're participating in Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan's Purse. Have any of you ever done this? It looks like so much fun. I know my children will love this. You, too, can do this. Here's how:

1. Find a shoe box.

2. Decide if your gift is going to be for a boy or a girl, and choose the age of the child. (This is fun because that way your children can choose children their ages!)

3. Fill the shoe box with gifts appropriate for the child. There is a list of ideas on the right-hand column of this page. You can even wrap the box, as long as you wrap the lid separately.

4. Donate $7 for shipping and project costs.

5. Drop off your filled shoe box(es) at a nearby location. To find the drop-off location nearest you, go here and type in your zip code.

The drop off dates are November 13th-20th, so now is the time to get moving on this!

So.... what are you waiting for? Got a shoe box? Like to shop?

Join our family as we wrap some Christmas gifts early this year... and bless some needy children in the process!

Thanks for the kick in the pants! I had thought about doing this then let the thought drift away. We are in walking distance to Dollar Tree so I should bundle up the kids and get them over there to do this. Bless you!

We love, love, love Operation Christmas Child! I think especially for our little people, it's a great way to share what Christmas is all about. My munchkins still ask about the boxes we did LAST Christmas! =) Our church is a drop-off site, so this year since they're a bit bigger, our family is going to help pack the boxes into bigger boxes for shipping.

Thanks for posting on this one!

It is a blessing for the kids. They each get to do a box and they pray over it.
    Gets the focus off themselves.
    Merry Christmas! :)

Welcome back! Wonderful guidelines. I follow most of the same! May God give you words to say and time to say them, and may he bless you with Life abundant!

(We do the shoeboxes too, and have for years. It is GOOD!)

This is our second year to do this. I just take our girls to Target and they have fun picking all of the gifts out. This year, someone in our church 1/2 way filled all of the boxes for everyone, and we just take our box home to fill up the rest. They used white, plastic shoe boxes too. This Sunday we'll bring our boxes to church, stack them in the front, and have a time to pray over them all.

I love this project. Our church did this a couple of years ago during VBS. It was a big hit. I decided that this will be a fun family thing to do this week. Thanks!

for posting this! We just got all of our stuff last night and the kids and I are excited to put it all together and drop it off.
Having you post on it and put up the link to the ministry was the kick in the pants I needed. The opportunity would have come and gone otherwise so thank you for helping those of us who sometimes lack some get up and go!
Love ya friend and so glad to be reading your blog again,

I agree with Amy...this was a good reminder (or "kick in the pants")...our church does a similar project for a mission on the Navajo Reservation....I am wondering if it is too late??? I need to get moving on this!
