Another must-read!

It's 9:35 on a Friday morning and Adelia just told me she's hungry.

I told her to pick up a cracker from the living room floor.

Not my usual response, no.

The crackers came out about an hour and a half ago, after I walked into the kitchen, nose in a book, to get them. Then I sat on the front couch, snuggled up under a blanket while the rain poured outside, and kept reading.

I read until I made it to the very last page. And then even skimmed back through the pages to re-read certain passages over again. The book? Charles Martin's newest book, The Mountain Between Us.

I love that satisfying feeling of finishing a good-- no, great-- book. Now I'm sad it's over.

Get the book. Martin is the best author I love to read.

Everyone is still in their pajamas. They're ready to move on from crackers to our usual Friday morning fare of pancakes. And they're ready for me to say something to them other than the Sh!'s and Just a minute's they've been hearing all morning.

So I'd best get to it.

  1. Just reserved this on the library's website. I can't WAIT to read it! Thanks for the tip! Didn't know he had a new book out. I first heard of Charles Martin from your blog a while back, and have loved them all so much I tell everyone to read him too. Even my dad likes his books. Thanks again!
    Happy Friday!

  2. I love Charles Martin! I heard about him from Jess (above) and I am thrilled he has a new book, I am off to reserve it from the Library!
Thanks for your honesty about being absorbed in a book, I often want to read and read, instead I stay up late (or all night) so I can read uninterrupted.

  3. Ooooh. Sounds like it must be a really good one! :)

  4. Jess,

YAY! I'm glad you took me up on my recommendation and started reading his books. Aren't they SO good?!

ps- We'd love a sign for our yard!

Yay! Yeah, this morning was definitely an exception. I usually read late at night, too. The thing is, I *did* read it late last night, until I was near to falling asleep, so I just had to finish this morning. :)

It is. You should definitely read it!

  5. That is kinda funny b/c last night I started Chasing Fireflies by Charles Martin. I LOVED When Crickets Cry. Great reading, can't remember if I learned of him from you or someone else. :)

  6. I am so glad that you read the morning away. Good for you; you deserve the time for yourself. You ought to do things like that more often. It might be good for our kids to see that you actually enjoy doing something besides doting on them all day.

(I'm really just glad you took the time to finish the book, so I can get my grubby little paws on it.)

  7. I love a good book recommendation! Thanks! :)

  8. NeedaNap2~ That was one of my favorites (When Crickets Cry). Wow. He's such an amazing writer.

Mark~ ~smile~ Thanks be to God that I was able to get my hands on it first, because I would be going insane waiting for you to finish it, my love.

    Candice~ Oh, I hope you'll like it! :)
