Current read-alouds

Have you read this one?

You must. Our kids (5, 3, and 2) loved it! As did their daddy and mommy.

We're currently reading this one:

...and this one:

And we just checked these out for the first time at the library:

(The stories are very sweet, and they have that wonderful combination of a full illustration on one page and a full page of text on the other, which the kids appreciate.)

What are you reading aloud to your little ones right now?

  1. We are just finishing up Carry On, Mr. Bowditch. (We are STILL doing school and are on week 25 of Sonlight Core 3) This is the second time through this book and I still love it.

  2. I think read alouds are one of my favorite parenting things. I can't get enough. And the kids love it so much too.
Does you two year old sit and listen as well?
Did you buy Mr. Popper's or get it from the Lybrary? How about Five Little Peppers? Just curious to borrow from you and what from the Lybrary.
Should I share about our last read aloud....? :)

  3. My daughter loved Mr Popper's Penguins. Reading aloud is one of my favorite things too.
We are reading The Story of Hans Christian Andersons Life. It's a child's version of the story. We are looking for a new one becasue we are almost done with this one.
    I love...love books and reading!

  4. Marmee,
I'll have to write that one down for future reference (as, knowing the ages of your girls, I'm assuming it's a bit old for my kids?)

    Amy,
I let each of the kids choose a picture book-type story from the bookshelf before naps and we read those first. Then after I've put Isaias down for his nap we do the longer (mostly picture-less) read-alouds. Ella loves them, Isaac hangs in there and anxiously awaits the next picture. :)
I checked out both Mr. Popper's Penguins and Five Little Peppers from the library.
    :)

  5. Stacy, we are working through the Complete Winnie the Pooh. I also just started Sammy the Jay by Thorton Burgess. These little stories are fun and always have a good moral to discuss.

  7. Hi Stacy! Great name.:) Thanks for stopping by my blog. My kids and I really enjoyed Mr Popper's Penguins and Little House on the Prairie books. Other books they have enjoyed are Pinnochio, Charlotte's Web and now The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

  8. We're reading "The Dragons of Blueland" from the "My Father's Dragon" series right now.

At the thrift store today, we found a collection of about 10 of the Beatrix Potter books, all but one of which we didn't have! We got all of them for around 8 dollars. So, today before nap, we read Jemima Puddle-Duck and The Flopsy Bunnies.

So, Stacy, you're reading Burgess? Did you find Animal Tales then? Yay! I'm putting the "Five Little Peppers" in my amazon cart. Thanks for recommending. ;)
