Just so you know...

If you have a Mac and desire to upgrade to their new Leopard, you really should go ahead and back up all your files. Otherwise you might lose everything. I repeat: everything.

Ask me how I know.

I was in tears only twice today, but oh, friends: ALL MY PHOTOS. Well, all the ones I've taken in the past 3 months. But that's a LOT. That's the worst. Yes, I'm bummed about all my Word files that are also completely gone. And all the various things I've bookmarked. But the photos? Those are what I cried over.

Add to that the fact that we discovered ants in our kitchen this morning. Our home is old, so this is not our first ant sighting, but this was the first time they were so... shall we say... *prevalent* in the kitchen. [Mark tells me he found some on the kitchen counter this morning.] Being the wise man that he is, he removed those prior to me seeing them there. That might have put me completely over the edge.

And that was all before the computer issue. And the hour and a half I was on the phone with the Apple guy. Or the hour I spent at the store nearby finding out that Yes, I'm afraid everything you had on here is now completely gone.

~sigh~

What I was thankful for today:

-Mark had the day off. He took care of those ants. I said maybe ten times today: "I am so glad you're home and taking care of this!" In "taking care" of them, he cleaned my entire kitchen, including pulling out the oven and fridge and cleaning beneath them. (Isn't he the greatest?!)

-I lost photos of my children, but their dear sweet selves are right here before me. (Thank you, Jesus.)

-My computer is fairly new, so I only have 3 months worth of stuff on here. (Still. But I'm thankful nonetheless.)

-We've had VERY stormy weather lately, and two trees fell in our neighborhood. Neither fell on our home or property.

-I called Michelle today on the phone, and she let me bawl about my computer woes. (Thank you!)

And I'm sure there's much, much more, too, but it's time for dinner!

  2. Oh, Stacy, I feel like crying FOR you! Are you SURE some computer genius somewhere can't get them back? A friend just lost all of hers but then someone was able to retrieve them from the deep dark hole of the computer SOMEHOW.

I'm so sorry, friend. Kudos to you for your incredible attitude about it. You're amazing.

  3. Dear Stacy,
I'm so sorry about your photos! I would have cried too.

Yay for your Mark being home and taking care of the ants - he's a goodie!

    Hope today is better.

  4. Stacy:

Just had to thank you for the tip about Leopard. We're an all Mac family and I've had some reservations about the upgrade. You just confirmed them. How can I thank you?

And, a tip for the ant issue: Try Ortho Home Defense Max. It really works on everything and our exterminator told us it's virtually the same product they use when they come to spray. It's at Home Depot or Lowe's.

    Ortho Home Defense Max

    God bless you!

  5. Oh, you poor dear. Sending big hugs!!

Your list of things you are thankful for, even in the midst of a rough couple of days, is such a blessing. I'm glad you have such a sweet hubby :-)

  6. Wow....it really was a rough day if that Michelle girl makes your list of things to be most thankful for!!!

I am soooooooo sorry that happened...I have never heard of such a thing on a Mac....and, by the way, my brother agreed that you should contact the store directly, or even make a road trip to the store to "turn it in" and explain first hand what happened. sigh.

OH....And, the thing I forgot to mention to you on the phone is HOW MUCH A I HATE IT when those computer geeks (and I mean that in the most respectful way) say "Well you should have known to have it all backed up."....That is so helpful after-the-fact, isn't it???!!!!

Hope the sun is shining brighter today (and that the only ants you see today are DEAD ones)! :)

    Love you!
    Michelle

  7. Oh my heavens. I would be devastated! Not so much by the ants because we live far enough south that we get those pesky things in through the kitchen door regularly. But the pictures. Oh my - I am sick just thinking of it.
I just last week backed up all 5 years of pictures and I plan to do all my documents over the next week or so. We are not getting Leopard any time soon, but hopefully in the Spring. I will be prepared!

  8. So sorry to hear this too.

This reminds me that I need to back up our pictures and also that it is a good idea to send pictures to others. I always think about that in case of a fire or something like that.

  9. Oh Stacy, I'm so sorry. I have been there and I know the tears you have cried. Not much you can do or say to feel better about that one. Although I do love your perspective on the blessing of having your kids right there with you. It's true.

And sorry as well to hear about MORE bug drama. :)

  10. Hi Stacy ~ I am so sorry for the techno nightmare. I would have been crying (and probably screaming and stomping), too.
I love that your precious heart found the "thankful" things today, and that you had a Mark and a Michelle in the midst of it.
We have the ant scout thing going on here every year (our home was built around 1940). They are the huge black ones, and (later) I will share my attack strategy with you to make you laugh :)
    Love, Q
